Welcome

The Picturesque Wingham Rifle Range was established in 1883. It currently has 12 targets and members shoot Target Rifle and F Class every Saturday between 1pm and 5pm. The calibre is not greater than 308 or 762. and the ranges are 300 to 800m.

The range is situated on the Mid North Coast, 331 km northeast of Sydney with the nearest main town being Taree, Wingham is part of the Mid North Coast District Rifle Association along with Gloucester, a beautiful area of the Barrington National Park ,Port Macquarie, voted in the top 4 climates in the world and Kempsey on the magnificent Macleay  River.  Wingham is the oldest town in the manning with a population of 4600. Dairy and beef are currently the major industry. European settlers moved in late 1820, to an area of the Kattang Aborigines and Wingham was declared a town in 1885.

Wingham Rifle Club holds a 2 day prize shoot every year on the Queens Birthday weekend in June. It is currently the largest shoot outside the Queens Prize attracting entries from between 110 and 130 competitors. In its centenary shoot in 1983 it attracted 192 competitors. The meeting was won by commonwealth Games Individual Gold Medalist Stan Golinski of the Parramatta Rifle Club with a perfect score of 210/210. The club presently have an enthusiastic band of travelling  Riflemen and women. There is Wilf Wright 13 times club champion and NSW representative in 1975 and currently representing Australia in Match Rifle. We also have 3 Australian Palma squad members, this has put Wingham on the map with the most members from one club representing Australia in the World Titles in QLD 2011.
Wingham’s senior members have initiated a very good junior and school  training program with this year ( 2009) having 3 representatives in the 10 person junior country team. They were  Bronte Thurtell, Bill Blackmore and Nathan Eagles. The Club Captain, Jim Blackmore coached the side to an easy victory over the city.

In 2007 Wingham won for the first time in the club’s history the prestigious Sargard teams match in Sydney by a record 9 point margin in very tricky conditions. In the same year the club also won the Zillman and the 5 man district teams match in QLD with Wendy Moon  last down and needing a 50.10 to take it out and  Wilf Wright coaching. The Club recently purchased a new F Class .223 rifle for visitors and new members to use.

Wingham is one of the most promising clubs in NSW being the envy of many other clubs and shooters due to it’s comradary,   and fierce but friendly competition between the target rifle and F Class shooters every weekend. The Club also has every Thursday to experiment with loads, test ammunition  with the chronograph and practice for up coming events. Visitors are welcome at any time  and can stay over using one of the many powered sites and the great male and female amenities. These cater for a large number of caravans and tents at the yearly prize meeting.
